What is Orbital Effects ?
Orbital Effects is an experience made for a school project. In this game, the player can manipulate effects to make patterns and shape, while those effects evolve as the time goes on.

• Platform : Pc, Android
• Using Unity, FMOD, GitHub, Ableton
• Project made during november - january 2023
• 4 person Team - I was in charge of UX, GD, GP for the Android Port

This is a school project in which the objective was to make a toy using Unity and FMOD.
Toy : In game design, a "toy" refers to a gameplay element or feature that provides the player with a sense of joy, experimentation, and engagement. It is an interactive and enjoyable component of a game that allows players to explore and interact with it in various ways, often without strict goals or objectives.

Intentions & Game feeling
___________________________________________
With Orbital Effect we wanted to create a restful and creative experience. Indeed, since the beginning of the development we had emphasized the interactivity of the elements of the game system. Subsequently our research in Artistic Direction as well as in Tech Art have steered us towards a kind of contemplative experience of the fact the satisfactory nature of the contrails and their trajectories. That's why our intention is to give the player the satisfaction of a creative experience by giving him tools that allow him to achieve a variety of evolving forms.

Ux, Game Design and the Android port
___________________________________________
I was in charge of the user experience, making sure the game is understable while still being really minimalistic. The gamefeel was also a huge part of the project.
I was also in charge of the Game Design, taking care of the early documentation, making sure the intentions were always respected.

Lastly, while making some prototype during pre-production, i was also in charge of making the Android Port. So, during developpement, i was trying to make our game fuctionnal in an android phone, this meant using the universal render pipeline while the base game use the HDRP. This also made me in charge of the optimisation alongside the lead programmer.

The object goes smaller instead of bigger !

The player can create a special cube than can make the big cube smaller.

I made some prototype using the concept of merging object. None of these ideas stayed, because we quickly iterated with the trail system of unity :
Then, we decided to make a lot of effects and make them change overtime. That's how Orbital Effect was created !
