What is Hiding Fairy ?
___________________________________________
Hiding Fairy is a point n'click in which the principle of Safari games is reversed, you're not the one taking pictures you're the one hiding from it. It was made for the GMTK 2023 Game Jam. (Theme : Role Reversed)

• Platform : Pc
• Using Unity, FMOD, Procreate
• Project made in 3 days
• 2 person Team - I was in charge of UX, GD, GP

We used Figma to do our brainstorming remotely. Quickly, the idea of a "Reversed Safari" came to our minds, and we played "Berry People" to see what a very short scope about a safari looks like. In this game, you just take pictures of little berrys and explore the little world. But the berrys hide themselve ! We loved this idea.
We wanted to make a children game, because the point and click and the Berry People reference inspired us to make a cute game.

Then, we discussed about gameplay ideas : You need to hide from photographers, who take a picture after some time.
My friend David made some fake screens while I was doing a small prototype and we advanced to production !

I did some prototype to see if the project was possible :

The first gameplay prototype

I added the hiding mecanic

David was making some assets, so I quickly incorporated them into my prototype :

Now the fairy can't be duplicated

I added a background using Procreate and David made even more assets. We can now make our first level

After the gameplay was done and our first level finished, I started working on the win and lose condition. When the level start, a timer is also starting. At the end, if the player is properly hidden, the win screen is triggered. If not, the player lost, and can restart.

To finish, we added a tutorial, a short story, and I animated the title screen.

We didn't make any publicity for our game, so just a few player played our game. But we had good reviews. I even had a teacher who asked me to make a different version for her students (7 years old).

David and I are really happy about this game. We wanted a very short scope, time to sleep and time to polish our game. We were very tired but we achieved our goal and our vision !
